APPLICATIONS – WATER QUALITY

As highlighted in a 2010 ABC TV Catalyst Program, urban stormwater is a major cause of contamination of waterways and waterbodies. Research has shown that concentrations of contaminants in the stormwater have not declined over time. When it rains, heavy metals and other chemical residues on roads and buildings are washed into the drains. Up to four kilograms of zinc occurs in some of the very large truck tyres, while most toxic hydrocarbons (PAH) come from car and truck exhausts. Fine clay particles in the run-off are electrostatically charged – like tiny magnets, these particles attract contaminants, such as heavy metals, dioxins and organochlorines.
The primary aim of all HydroCon products – HydroCon pipes, HydroSTON pavers and HydroFilter stormwater filters – is to improve water quality by filtering out and isolating particle bound contaminants (heavy metals, phosphorus and hydrocarbons). HydroCon pipe and paver systems are aimed at containing or neutralising dissolved contaminants, including nitrogenous compounds, providing a high level of ‘tertiary’ treatment.
