APPLICATIONS – STORMWATER RETENTION / DETENTION

On-site stormwater detention (OSD) and on-site stormwater retention (OSR) systems offer temporary storage of flows, thereby reducing catchment peak flows and infrastructure overload. Most Australian local government stormwater plans include OSD and OSR targets.
For Camden Grove Estate (featured above), double lines of HydroCon pipes were installed in two sand filter basins to treat stormwater runoff from the Estate prior to storage in detention ponds within a drainage reserve. The HydroCon pipe and sand filter basin systems provide considerable retention and treatment capacity for stormwater drainage from an Estate catchment area of 70,000 m2, prior to discharge of treated water into a local creek.
Installation of HydroCon pipes in biofiltration/retention applications substantially increases underground water storage capacity. HydroCon pipes can increase storage capacity by almost 40% (see example).
HydroSTON pavement systems can contribute to OSD and OSR targets by retaining stormwater run-off on site. The hydrological cycle can continue through processes of infiltration, percolation and evapotranspiration.
